Social Media- how to keep it up? and the latest
July 15, 2009I actually been missing my blog . I love networking, and social media rocks! For us photographer starting out it is so important to be in the loop of things ( ok sounded so old right now), be in the groove of things, ( sound even older), be with the times, you get my drift. If you are new photographer or new vendor in the wedding industry like me, social media is a must because after all most of it is free and every body is using it!. Three musts are twitter, facebook and your own blog. One must also follow other blogs, commenting on other people’s blogs will get you some traffic as well as establish some friendships, some network, peers and it gets you in touch with some pretty amazing mentors like Dane Sanders who I am in love with at the moment. Do not worry Dane, I will not stalk you, just your blog and facebook fan page- HAHA. I know it gets crazy and one can loose hours just visiting other blogs, please don’t. Here are a few tips for general social media use.
- Commit your timeslots so you get your workflow well in a nice flow and if that means setting time limits on social media, by all means, do it because you could be doing other fun things like spending time with the people you love, getting some more business or finishing your to do list.
- Don’t abandon your blog - I know it can be a lot of work, resizing pictures, finding content to write about and all that fun stuff but if you want people to follow your blog, you must well blog. Even if it is once a week. talk about your life, a new restaurant, current topics, your work, your fam, your dog, anything but important that it must be you. You do not have to spill your guts, but it is nice to get a feel of who you are because clients want to know who their photographer or vendor is before they even meet them.
- Define your style- even if you pick some words to define it and then find successful photographers who inspire you in that style- Follow them and make a list of them so you are not following 10 blogs. Make your list and check theirwork and they also many times have cool resources for your industry. Some folks I check in every week or almost daily are Sarah Barlow, Amelia Lyon, Jasmine Star, Justin and Mary, Tofurious, Gray Photographers ( check out their blog and vote for them please) and some fellow Brazilian Photographers Elianefrom Photo Passion, very first photographer who helped me and will be my first interviewee for Feuza’s Fusion Talks. Bianca Valentim and Paula Leme and there are a few other amazing peeps I follow and learn so much from ( will add them to my links section)
- Be generous- comment on other people’s blogs, especially newbies like me, we feel a lone over here sometimes. We are peers and we should build a support team for each other. Photographers are your friends
- and tweet once in a while, try that app which adds twitter updates to Facebook, that way you can save some time.
- Do not get over whelmed, I am also a mom and really wanted to be a mom blogger because I think I am funny and my kids say funny things, check out this homemade video for Sarah Barlow’s Birthday to see what I am saying. But I signed up for some mom blogs and I just could not stretch myself out like that so I stick with 1 or 2 and of course my blog. If I were to do all these blogs, forums, social media sites, I would not sleep, and sleep is important.
I hope you have enjoyed this tips. There has been small bunch of lately happenings in my life and work. Here are some sneak peaks because posts are always better with pictures. I attended a tres chique affair hosted by ABC (Associatation of Bridal Consultants). I began attending their get togethers even before I was a photographer so it was very cool to go back and meet some new photographers, bridal consultants, and other vendors from the wedding industry. The event was held at Velocity 17, a very cool race car venue with so much space! I also headed back to good old Rutgers this week for some pictures of my beautiful Sisters, Flavia, Janay and Ana as well as my adorable cousin Juliane who is here from Brazil. It was a short shoot but they rocked! Enjoy.
My Baby Sister is not looking like a baby no more…
Nanay looking more and more grown up
Flavia- the only sister with mom’s green eyes
My cousin
Juliane who is visiting from Brazil. I recently just met her and can we say Beautiful?
Ladies are all gorgeous!
